Top VMware ESX/ESXi Commands for Troubleshooting

For VMware virtual machine management, you have PowerCLI. But for real, technical troubleshooting, VMware's ESX/ESXi command line utilities, available on the hosts themselves, are your best option. This article covers the esxcfg, esxcli, and the vm host tools for troubleshooting an ESX/ESXi environment. The utilities are located on the host system and are run from the host system. To use these utilities, you'll have to establish a remote SSH connection to the host. Enabling Remote Access (SSH) to the ESX/ESXi Host Every command is run from the host, therefore you'll have to enable remote SSH access to the host. Assuming that you don't have direct physical access to the host system, you'll have to enable remote access via the vSphere Client.
